Mission Statement of American Apparel, values ...

The history of American clothing began in 1986 when the founder, Dov Charney, was a high school and began importing US-shirts in his hometown of Montreal, Quebec for sale. Charney continue to do business when he went to college at Tufts University in Boston, where he produces and sells screen printing T-shirts with the name of the company American Apparel.

1990 Charney began making shirts in South Carolina. On 4 July 1997 Charney moved to Los Angeles, then moved to California shortly after its manufacturing operations. The first store opened in November 2003, American Apparel in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. The first international retailer opened in the hometown of Montreal, Canada Charney in 2003. In 2015, American Apparel operates stores in 18 international companies.
